Terms of Service
Last updated: 23 October 2026 · Effective: 9 October 2026
The short version
- Writers own their work. Publishing on NeatRead gives us permission to host and deliver your posts, not ownership of them.
- Paid posts are for you. Read them as much as you like, but do not copy or share them. Each copy is marked to the reader who received it.
- Cancel any time. Paid plans can be cancelled whenever you like, and unused time is refunded pro rata on request.
- Be decent. No spam, harassment or attempts to game stars, polls or the paywall.
01. Accepting these terms
By using NeatRead — reading, signing in, subscribing, commenting or publishing — you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. Signing in counts as accepting them. If you do not agree, please do not use NeatRead.
02. What NeatRead is
NeatRead is a platform where independent writers publish and readers read, join and subscribe. Each publication is run by its own writer or team, who decide what it publishes and what it charges. NeatRead does not write, edit or endorse their posts, and their views are their own.
03. Your account
- You sign in with a one-time link sent to your email, or with Google. Anyone who can read your email can sign in as you, so keep your email account secure.
- Give accurate information, and use one account per person.
- You must be at least 13 years old to have an account.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has used it, sign out everywhere from your account page and email support@neatread.net.
04. Paid subscriptions and refunds
- Not on sale yet. Paid plans cannot be bought yet. This section applies once they can.
- Prices. Each publication sets its own plans and prices. You pay the publication through Stripe; the price and billing period are shown before you pay.
- Renewal. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
- Cancelling. Cancel any time by asking the publication, or by emailing support@neatread.net and we will cancel it for you. Unless you ask for a refund, you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds. If you cancel, you may ask for a refund of the unused part of the current period, calculated pro rata by day. Ask the publication, or email support@neatread.net and we will pass it on and follow up. Refunds go back to the card you paid with, and access ends when the refund is made.
- Chargebacks and abuse. If a payment is reversed, or a subscription is used to leak paid posts, access ends without a refund.
05. Paid and members-only posts
Posts for paying or signed-in members are for your own reading. Do not copy, republish, sell, or share them or your account with others. Gift links a writer gives you may be shared as the writer intends.
Each copy of a paid or members-only post carries an invisible mark unique to the reader who received it. If a copy is leaked, the mark shows which account it came from, and that account can be closed.
06. Supporting writers
- Straight to the writer. A writer may add a support link to their profile: their own page on a tipping service such as Ko-fi, Buy Me a Coffee or PayPal. The Support button under their posts takes you there, and anything you give goes from you to the writer through that service.
- NeatRead is not part of it. We do not take a share, see your payment details or hold the money. The service’s own terms apply, and refunds or disputes are between you, the writer and that service.
- A gift, not a purchase. Support does not buy a subscription or unlock paid posts, unless the writer says otherwise on their own page.
- Only known services. A support link can point only at the tipping services we accept, and we count clicks on the button so writers can see them. If a link looks wrong, tell us at support@neatread.net.
07. Writers and publications
- You own your posts. You give NeatRead a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, format and deliver them by web and email; to make previews, share images, audio versions and summaries of them; and to show their previews on NeatRead’s discovery pages. The licence ends when you delete a post, except for copies already sent by email.
- You are responsible for what you publish. You need the rights to everything in your posts, and it must be lawful.
- Your members’ information. You may use your member list only to run your publication, must handle it lawfully, including under Taiwan’s Personal Data Protection Act, and must not sell it.
- Email people who asked. Add someone to your weekly recap only if they agreed to receive it.
- Payments. You are responsible for your Stripe account, your prices, your taxes, and honouring the refund terms in section 4.
08. Acceptable use
Whether you read or write, do not:
- Post spam, repetitive promotion, deceptive links or clickbait.
- Post content that is abusive, harassing, hateful, defamatory, or otherwise unlawful.
- Inflate stars, poll votes, views or referrals with scripts, bots or extra accounts.
- Get around the paywall, scrape the site, or probe or attack its security.
- Upload malware or link to it.
- Impersonate any person, publication or brand.
You own the comments you write, and give us a licence to display them alongside the post they are on.
09. Moderation and ending your account
Publications moderate their own comments. We may remove content and suspend or close accounts that break these Terms or the law, and we will tell you why unless the law or safety prevents it. You can delete your account at any time from your account page.
10. Links, other services and AI
Posts may link to other sites, and some features rely on other services such as Stripe and Google. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or practices. Some features use AI to write summaries, audio, suggestions and translations from a post’s text; these are made automatically and may contain mistakes. A translated post is marked as one and links to the original, which is what its writer wrote.
11. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
As is. NeatRead is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the extent the law allows.
Limitation. To the extent the law allows, NeatRead is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of or inability to use the service. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived.
12. Changes to these terms
We will post any change here and update the date at the top. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you by email or on the site before it takes effect. Using NeatRead after that means you accept the new Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Taiwan (Republic of China). Any dispute will be heard first by the Taiwan Taipei District Court, unless a law that protects you as a consumer gives you the right to bring it elsewhere.
